Poll Everywhere

I believe it is important to get students' opinions about classroom going-ons as much as possible. I appreciate knowing what they want to happen, and I think the students appreciate that I ask for their input. Here's the trick, though. Give them two options (both of which you are perfectly content with), and then have them choose. I did this just the other day with my Spanish 3 class. I wanted to know if they wanted to switch seats for second semester. I was okay if they did switch, and I was okay if they didn't switch.

The cool thing is that I used an electronic polling website, and they LOVED it! It's called
http://www.polleverywhere.com/, and you can text in a vote, tweet in a vote or vote through the web. I had them get out their cells phones to text in their vote. It was funny because they are so used to not being allowed to use their cell phones in class, they all felt strange with them out in the open. It is a live site, so they saw the percentage of votes change as each person cast her vote. So cool!
