2 Activities to practice the subjunctive

This is my first time teaching the subjuntive mood, and I did two activities that I thought were pretty successful. My students were scared when I told them that the subjunctive can be difficult but only if they make it difficult. After we learned how to conjugate subjunctive verbs, we practiced the conjugations on mini-white boards. They slowly reminded themselves of the irregular yo forms (i.e. tengo, hago, pienso, juego, etc.). After that we talked about how to use the subjunctive in a sentence expressing hopes, desires and preferences with esperar, querer and preferir. Then we did the following two activities:

1. On one index card students wrote the main clause along with que and the subject of the dependent clause (example: Yo quiero que ella...). On another index card they wrote the second part of the sentence (example: hable italiano.). I collected all the cards and then shuffled them. I passed out the cards and the students had to form complete sentences with the cards. The first time we did it all the cards had a match. The second time it didn't work out so perfectly, but the objective was accomplished.

2. In partners students wrote sentences using the subjunctive telling their classmates to do something. Examples: Yo quiero que Elena toque la cabeza. Yo quiero que Sra. Valdez baile. The students really enjoyed it because they got to tell their classmates to do goofy things.
