Spanglish

More than a few years ago, one of my college profesors gave my class a list of Spanglish words that are used frequently. This came from El Mundo's (a popular newspaper in Spain- www.elmundo.es) magazine in 2003. I saved the paper because I was impressed by the changes in a language that happen because of an influence of another language. It was also interested that the spellings of the words are very different from anything that I have ever seen in English or in Spanish.

Here are some highlights:

Americrismas (Merry Christmas)- Feliz Navidad
Bisi (busy)- Ocupado
Jamberga (hamburger)- Hamburguesa
Japiverdei (Happy Birthday)- Feliz cumpleaños
Lonchar (to each lunch)- Almorzar
Maicrogüey (Microwave)- Microondas
Nogüey (No Way)- De ninguna manera
Printear (to print)- Imprimir
Suiche (switch)- Cambio
Yob (job)- trabajo
