Last summer I took a professional development class where I learned how to use an iPod Touch. The best part was that I got to take the iPod Touch home with me. I immediately fell in love, and I have since upgraded to an iPhone. It has changed my personal life in ways that I never expected with the use of the calendar, maps and having access to information 24 hours a day. And it's especially useful while traveling.
There are also several apps that are great for anyone interested in learning a foreign language. They are the following:
1. Translator. There are about twenty languages that you can either translate from or translate into. I assume that this app is similar to other translation websites in that they translate word for word, not by phrases or expressions.)
2. Spanish Dictionary. The free version is very limited, but you can pay $0.99 for the complete dictionary.
3. Voice Memos. I plan on using this sometime this year in class for speaking assignment. I will attach a microphone on the iPod touch and have them record themselves speaking. To grade, all I have to do is take the iPod home with me!
4. Spanish Tutor.
5. El Pais. The Spanish newspaper has a very easy to use app. I am sure there are others, but this is the Spanish-speaking newspaper that I read the most.
6. Pandora. Just like the website, you can have access to a variety of music and learn about other musicians that are similar to those that you already like.
7. Yoga en espanol. There are several yoga videos in Spanish. Corny, yes, but so fun to do in the classroom.
There are many, many more apps for Spanish learners, not to mention many more for learning other languages. I have apps for learning French and Italian, too!
