Activities to practice numbers:
1. Divide students into groups, and give them a stack of playing cards. Give students a number value for the face cards. Give the group a number, and they have to find a combination of cards that add up to the given number. Have the group make sure that every single person in the group knows how to say each of the numbers. Call on one student in the group to say the addition problem. You also do this as a large group. Have students walk around to find students with cards that add up to the given number. You also can change it up by making students subtract, multiply and divide.
2. A good activity for kinesthetic learners. Give each student 2-3 pipecleaners. Call out a number, and have students form the number with the pipecleaner.
3. Divide students into partners, and tell them to form a number somehow only using their bodies. I do not give them any guidelines, and they usually are pretty creative. I also do this in a large group. I give them a number, and they form the number that I say.
